What is Profound?
Profound is a minimally invasive, FDA-approved procedure used to treat wrinkles and cellulite, in addition to your middle, or dermal, layer of skin, as well as adipose tissue, or fat. It’s the first device used to regenerate the three skin elements that work together to create dermal volume:
- Elastin
- Collagen
- Hyaluronic acid
The Profound device is both clinically and scientifically proven to send energy deep within your tissue through temperature-controlled radiofrequency (RF). Pairs of micro-needle electrodes are inserted into your skin to create a thermal injury. This injury stimulates wound healing and dermal remodeling, and it does it all without damaging your outer layer of skin.
How does Profound work?
There are two types of Profound handpieces that provide comprehensive treatment — Dermal and SubQ.
Treatment with the Profound Dermal handpiece uses a cartridge that has five pairs of electrode fitted micro-needles. These micro-needles deliver bipolar radiofrequency (RF) energy to the deep layers of your skin. It then creates a controlled fractional injury, which stimulates wound healing and creates new elastin, collagen, and hyaluronic acid. The result is a visible improvement in your skin’s appearance.
Treatment with the Profound SubQ handpiece uses a cartridge that has seven pairs of electrode fitted micro-needles. Similar to the Dermal handpiece, the micro-needles deliver RF energy, but the target is your subcutaneous layer of skin underneath your chin, where fat is stored. It works by creating a controlled fractional injury to heat adipose tissue and remodel the thin membranes known as your septa. As a result, the submental fat is destroyed, and you no longer have a double chin.
It takes several months to see full results, and you can return to normal activities within 1 week of your treatment.
What are the benefits of Profound?
There are quite a few benefits to having Profound treatment.
During a clinical study, a single treatment procedure had a 100% response rate. Doctors love it because results are predictable compared with more invasive procedures. The provider has complete control over what temperature he uses, as well as how deep the microneedles puncture your skin. He also can determine the amount of time a treatment will take, based on your individual needs.
Profound requires minimal to moderate downtime depending on the areas treated. There’s very little risk, and you have a variety of approved facial treatment areas to choose from:
- Nasolabial folds: folds between your lip and nose
- Melolabial folds: folds between your lip and cheeks
- Submental: area under your chin
- Submandibular: area under your jaw
- Jowls: lower portion of your cheek
It’s also indicated for certain areas of your neck. Results are visually apparent, and you’ll notice your skin has less laxity and greater elasticity. Ultimately, Profound is an excellent resource to replace lost volume in the skin that’s aging.
